• What does it cost to attend the folk high school?

  The price for a folk high school stay consists of a registration fee, a subject account, and a weekly fee. Travel expenses and optional extras are additional. Read more about the cost and see some examples here.

• Where is Aalborg Sportshøjskole located?

  Aalborg Sportshøjskole is located in the heart of one of Denmark’s major study cities. Therefore, you will find lots of cafés, restaurants and venues/events for young people near the school. Aalborg is located beautifully by the fjord and offers many recreative areas as well, and Aalborg Airport is just 5 kilometers away from the city, easily connecting us to the world.  

• How are the facilities at Aalborg Sportshøjskole?

  At Aalborg Sportshøjskole, we have some of the best facilities in the country for climbing, strength training, CrossFit, and fitness. In addition, we have an outdoor bonfire area and all the equipment needed for water sports and outdoor activities. We also have modern apartments with a kitchenette, toilet, and shower. • What kind of accommodation do students have?

  All students live in apartments shared with 1-3 roommates. The apartments are located in Anneberghus, right next to the school. They are between 35 and 50 square meters and include an entrance hall, a large room, a bathroom with a shower, and a kitchenette with a fridge and sink. The apartments come furnished with beds, wardrobes, shelves, bulletin boards, and a table with chairs. You can pay 500 DKK more per week to stay in your own apartment.

• What about the food at Aalborg Sportshøjskole?

  Our kitchen staff serves three main meals and three snacks every day. On weekends, a delicious brunch is served, and there is always fruit, tea, and coffee available. Food is more than just fuel - it's a fantastic source of new and exciting experiences for your senses. Therefore, we offer varied and exciting meals that challenge your taste buds and stimulate your senses with new flavors, textures, and ingredients. Our skilled chefs ensure that food from all corners of the world is included, giving you the opportunity to try new dishes from different cultures.

• What about the language?

  If you want to join us at Aalborg Sportshøjskole, we recommend that you understand and speak English. As a Danish folk high school, the main language in our classes is Danish. However, we will translate to English if necessary. Our teachers and most of the Danish students speak English, and we know from experience that international students quickly mingle and form lasting friendships with the Danish students due to the boarding school environment. Living, learning and laughing together is a good – even though you speak different languages.

• How old are the students?

  Our students range from just under 18 years old to over 30, but the average age is about 22.

• Do I need to be in good shape to start?

  No, you don’t. There’s room for everyone regardless of skill level in all subjects. It’s not about being the best, but about participating and having fun. We have students who are very into sports, and students who are beginners—ready to try something new.

• How do I choose subjects?

  You choose your subjects when you start at the school. You must select one subject from each category: Sports subject 1, Sports subject 2, Sports subject 3, Immersion subject, Competence subject, and Elective subject. In addition, all students take common subjects and have the option to choose optional subjects outside mandatory classes from 8 AM to 3 PM. See all subjects here.

• Can I change subjects along the way?

  You can always change subjects during the term if there is room in the subject you want to switch to. You can also change subjects at the start of each new period in August, September, January, and March.

• What do students do in their free time and on weekends?

  Everything from cozy movie nights, relaxing, and training to fun activities, parties, and nights out on weekends. As an urban folk high school located in the heart of Aalborg, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy city life with shops, cafés, street food, and the famous Jomfru Ane Gade. When the weather is nice, there’s time for beach volleyball, sunbathing, swimming in Vestre Fjordpark, or maybe a trip to the North Sea.

• What should I bring to the folk high school?

  Primarily clothes, shoes, duvet, pillow, bedding, towels, and toiletries. Many students also enjoy bringing a bike, speaker, headphones, sleeping mats, storage boxes, and decorations for their room. You will receive a packing list before you start.
